Worth it, and one of the few Shanghai stops I'd tell a first-timer not to skip — but go at night for the skyline and go expecting crowds. If you only care about quiet or you're chasing the flawless version you saw in videos, you'll leave underwhelmed; everyone else should just show up after sunset and confirm the lights are running that evening.
A 1.5-kilometer row of late-19th-century European commercial architecture: British banks, French trading houses, German and American consulates, built between 1870 and 1937. Together they form what travel writers call the 'Museum of Buildings' (Wan Guo Jian Bo Qun). The facades are not museums; the buildings are still working offices, and you can only view them from the riverside walkway.
From the Bund (Shanghai's iconic riverside promenade)'s riverside rail, you face the Lujiazui financial district (Lujiazui, the Lujiazui financial district on the east bank of the Huangpu River) across the Huangpu River. The 468-meter Oriental Pearl TV Tower, 421-meter Jin Mao Tower, and 632-meter Shanghai Tower form a triple-spire skyline visible from any point on the Bund.
From 18:30 in winter and 19:00 in summer, all major Lujiazui towers run a synchronized light and music show that lasts about 30 minutes. The Bund (Shanghai's iconic riverside promenade)'s riverside rail gets crowded from 30 minutes before showtime; arrive early to keep a front-rail position.
