Worth it if you've never seen a major karst cave and don't mind an hour-plus of walking underground — it's one of the largest and most theatrical caverns in China. If you're claustrophobic, go early to beat crowds, or want untouched wild scenery over color-lit formations, I'd skip it. Not great for anyone expecting a short, easy stroll.

亮点
The cave itself lives up to the hype — visitors consistently describe it as the biggest, most dramatic karst cavern they've seen, with towering stone columns and 'stone-curtain' formations that genuinely stop people in their tracks.
The route pairs Zhijin Cave with the Grand Canyon (Dahexia), so you get an underground world plus above-ground gorge scenery in one trip if you plan the timing right.
The lighting rig has been upgraded over the years — people who went a decade ago say it looks far more impressive now, and the color-lit formations photograph well.
Guided narration on-site is a real plus; several visitors singled out the storytelling as vivid and worth listening to rather than tuning out.
要注意
It's a long walk — expect an hour-plus on foot inside, and multiple people said their legs and patience were tested; one flatly called it 'just walking the whole time.'
It is genuinely rough if you're claustrophobic. You're underground for one to two hours with no quick exit, and visitors with claustrophobia openly warn each other to stay away.
The heavy artificial color-lighting turns off people who want raw, wild cave scenery — if you've seen a lot of caves, the 'every cave looks the same' complaint may hit you too.
The Grand Canyon half is weather-dependent and the boat-ride section barely feels like a canyon; skip it if you came for landforms, and note the sky-pit (tiankeng) can get cut from some route versions.

Cave Entrance Backlit Photography

The cave's vast concentric-ring ceiling is dramatically silhouetted by light streaming through the entrance. From inside the cave looking out, the entrance light traces the cave ceiling's form, creating an unmissable backlit photography scene. A wide-angle or fisheye lens captures the cave's scale and the striking silhouette effect.

Self-Driving to the Cave Entrance

Navigate to Zhijin Shexiang Cave via your preferred map app. From Bijie East Toll Station, the route passes through local villages on winding, steep mountain roads. The final 1.3 km is a narrow single-lane road — drive slowly and honk horns on blind corners. Park near the entrance and walk just dozens of meters to enter.

Bring a Headlamp and Wear Bright Colors

On the return trip, you will walk facing the cave entrance's strong light, making it hard to see the path. A headlamp is essential for illuminating the ground. For photography, wear bright-colored clothing to create a striking contrast against the dark cave backdrop. Wide-angle and fisheye lenses work best inside the cave.
