综评

Worth it if you're reasonably fit, want raw karst over polished tourist-park scenery, and can hire a guide to find the good sections - skip it if you're expecting an easy stroll, you're traveling in high water season, or you've already seen a lot of Guizhou/Guangxi karst, because plenty of people leave feeling it was ordinary and not worth the ticket.

亮点
This is a genuine nature reserve, not a manicured park - people who came once came back two or three times over the years, which tells you the primal cycad sinkholes and the jade pools at Qinglong Tan hold up beyond a single photo op.
If you want quiet, this delivers what the polished Guizhou spots don't - visitors who stayed a night or two describe it as actually calm and uncrowded, a rare thing for a karst site in this region.
The four-cave headlamp crossing at Jinshi Dong is the real draw here - it's a proper caving traverse, not a boardwalk, so if you came for something physical and raw, this is where it pays off.
It's a large reserve, so the payoff scales with effort - the further in you push past the entrance, the better it gets, and that's exactly why the good sections stay empty.
要注意
The four-cave crossing is genuinely demanding with real elevation gain - if you don't exercise regularly, don't assume you'll walk it comfortably, and this being a wild reserve, the risk is not decorative.
Flooding is a real and current problem - the water has been high this year, and if you come in the wet season expect sections to be affected or the scenery to disappoint. Ask locally before committing.
Not everyone is impressed - a real chunk of visitors think it's ordinary karst you can find free elsewhere in Guizhou or Guangxi, and resent paying the CNY 50 ticket for it. The 3.4 rating reflects that split.
You'll want a guide to hit the best sections in a reserve this big, and getting there means driving narrow mountain roads - factor in the extra cost and the hassle, this is not a turn-up-and-wander spot.

Primal cycad sinkholes

Maolan's sinkholes are studded with cycads (ancient palm-like plants that pre-date the dinosaurs) and tree ferns — a forest type that survived from the Jurassic, set inside karst (limestone landscape eroded by water) collapse dolines.

Jade pools at Qinglong Tan

The Qinglong Tan pool sits in a sinkhole-lake chain where groundwater stays a steady jade green year-round. Visitors wade in from a wooden plank walkway; bring water shoes, the rocks are sharp.

Headlamp cave at Jinshi Dong

Jinshi Dong's three chambers are lit only by your headlamp — a guide leads you past rimstone dams and rimstone pools (calcite terraces shaped like rice paddies) that catch light like wet glass. Avoid going after heavy rain; the lower chamber floods fast.
