这里到底是什么

The world's largest Miao settlement with 1,468 stilted households cascading down a forested mountainside in Guizhou, split by the Baishui River. Known as an 'open-air museum,' it preserves Miao traditions, festivals, silver ornaments, song, and dance. At night, thousands of lamps create one of China's most iconic rural vistas.

Worth it for one thing above all — the after-dark lantern-lit hillside — so only go if you'll stay the night to see it; if you're passing through for a few daytime hours or you bristle at commercialized, pricey tourist towns, I'd skip it.

亮点
The night view is the real reason to come — the whole hillside of stilt houses lights up after dark and it genuinely looks like a wall of lanterns. Stay overnight; day-trippers who leave by afternoon miss the one thing everyone actually remembers.
Book a guesthouse up near the terraced-field viewpoint (the viewpoint side). Reviewers who stayed there said it made both the sunrise fog over the valley and getting around noticeably easier than staying down by the entrance.
The layered, stacked look of the village photographs better from height than from inside it — climb to the summit terraces or the upper viewpoints rather than only wandering the main alleys at ground level.
It's a full stay, not a stop. People consistently say one day isn't enough to actually see it; plan on a night so you catch both the evening lights and the early-morning mist.
要注意
It's expensive and it adds up: CNY 90 admission plus a CNY 20 shuttle, and lodging near the viewpoints runs high — one visitor quoted CNY 1,000 a night and said they wouldn't go back. Budget for the ticket AND pricey rooms.
It's heavily commercialized and crowded. Expect tourist-town shops, staged '12 toasts of rice wine' rituals, and a gap between the polished videos and what's actually in front of you — go in expecting a busy managed attraction, not an untouched mountain village.
It's remote. It sits deep in southeast Guizhou, so factor in a real journey (long drives from Chongqing/Guangzhou, plus reaching the nearest high-speed rail station and transferring in).
Timing matters and the place isn't equally good year-round — early February looked flatter to some visitors, and rainy weather changes the whole experience. The lights and fog need the right conditions.

Ten Thousand Lights Night View

The signature experience - as dusk falls, the village transforms. Thousands of windows illuminate the hillside in sequence, creating a second galaxy mirrored on the Baishui River. Best viewed from the Viewing Platform between 20:00-21:30.

Ga Gayika Ancient Alley

The cultural heart of the village - silver hammering, indigo batik, and ancient handcrafts are demonstrated in situ. Afternoon light casting long shadows on the wooden walls makes it the most photogenic lane in the village. Open all day, free to walk.

Terraced Fields Summit View

A hidden back-mountain trail climbs to a panorama point overlooking both the village and the surrounding agricultural terraces. Wear light-colored clothing to contrast with the deep greens. The viewpoint is unmarked - ask locals for the 'mountain health trail' near the West Gate.

Traditional Miao Costume Experience

Miao silver-adorned traditional clothing rentals start at 30-80 yuan for the outfit alone; a full package with professional styling and accessories runs 199 yuan at the village's many photography studios. The experience is considered essential by most visitors.

Miao Museum & Guzang Hall

The Miao Museum displays ancient artifacts, ceremonial objects, and historical documents. Adjacent Guzang Hall hosts the most important ritual ceremonies. Both are free to enter and offer rich context for understanding the culture before exploring the village.

Around 06:00 pull back the curtains to watch morning mist drift through the stilt houses. Walk up near Cunshang Book Gallery or Niupeng Coffee where the higher elevation gives wide, crowd-free panoramas of the layered eaves emerging from the fog.
