Worth it for one thing above all — the after-dark lantern-lit hillside — so only go if you'll stay the night to see it; if you're passing through for a few daytime hours or you bristle at commercialized, pricey tourist towns, I'd skip it.
The signature experience - as dusk falls, the village transforms. Thousands of windows illuminate the hillside in sequence, creating a second galaxy mirrored on the Baishui River. Best viewed from the Viewing Platform between 20:00-21:30.
The cultural heart of the village - silver hammering, indigo batik, and ancient handcrafts are demonstrated in situ. Afternoon light casting long shadows on the wooden walls makes it the most photogenic lane in the village. Open all day, free to walk.
A hidden back-mountain trail climbs to a panorama point overlooking both the village and the surrounding agricultural terraces. Wear light-colored clothing to contrast with the deep greens. The viewpoint is unmarked - ask locals for the 'mountain health trail' near the West Gate.

Ride the shuttle up to the viewing platform after dark, around 20:00–21:30, when thousands of household lights flicker on across the hillside like a galaxy fallen to earth. It is the must-see photo stop of the whole village.
Climb the terraces and look down on rows of stilt houses built into the mountainside; the lush green of the rice paddies against the wooden dwellings makes a soul-cleansing frame. Find the path carefully so you don't wander into someone's home.

Around 06:00 pull back the curtains to watch morning mist drift through the stilt houses. Walk up near Cunshang Book Gallery or Niupeng Coffee where the higher elevation gives wide, crowd-free panoramas of the layered eaves emerging from the fog.
Sky Courtyard is a favorite spot to shoot Miao-costume portraits; with a styling-and-makeup package and good light you can easily come away with over a thousand frames in a day.
Catch the Miao welcome-wine ceremony at the North or West Gate square, held 10:30–12:00 and 15:30–17:00, then watch the original-style song-and-dance show at Lusheng Square at 14:00–14:45.
Take a break at one of the view cafes — Pig-Pen Coffee, Niupeng (Cowshed) Coffee or Cunshang Book Room — where the romantic swings sit against an entire hillside of ancient stilt houses for a striking contrast.
