A serene West Lake walking route threading Song-era alleys, classical gardens, and lakeside paths on foot or by shared bike.
Hangzhou's West Lake city walk links classical gardens, Song-era alleyways, and lakeside paths into a one-day loop on foot or by shared bike. Most of the route is open-air public space with free access; only a few garden sites charge a small entry.
Worth it, and honestly the free part — walking the shore and sitting by the water — beats the ticketed attractions; go for a slow half-day in spring, autumn, or light rain, take the metro not a car, and start early. If you only have a rushed, sun-baked afternoon or you're chasing the empty postcard shots, skip it or come back another season.
