Chishui Danxia Tourism Area
Red-rock Danxia cliffs, a 100-m waterfall, and bamboo forests in northern Guizhou — UNESCO World Heritage since 2010.
What it actually is
Chishui Danxia Tourism Area is a 36.3 km² UNESCO World Heritage Site in rural Guizhou. Its centerpiece is a breathtaking 100-meter waterfall cascading down red Danxia cliffs, flanked by bamboo forests and ancient cycad groves. The three-zone area includes Chishui Grand Waterfall, Foguang Cliff, and Swallow Cliff Trail. China's newest 5A scenic spot.
Editor's take
Worth it if you land in the high-water season and give it a full day - go early, check the water level first, and treat it as a slow two-day canyon trip rather than a quick stop. Great for families who want scenery with shuttle-and-elevator access, but I'd skip it if you're short on time, chasing guaranteed spectacle in a dry month, or unwilling to deal with the long haul out to Chishui.

Ranked among China's most spectacular waterfalls, the falls create a deafening roar and shimmering rainbows on sunny afternoons. Visitors can stand on viewing platforms just meters from the thundering cascade. Featured in National Geographic's list of China's most beautiful places.
Foguang Cliff
A massive red cliff face towering hundreds of meters, regarded as the most iconic formation in the Chishui Danxia landscape. The cliff's sheer red walls and surrounding bamboo forests create a striking color contrast. A scenic trail leads to observation decks with panoramic views of the Danxia canyon below.
