Qiansimen Bridge Viewpoint
Stand on the Jiangbei riverside promenade directly opposite Hongyadong. At night, the illuminated Hongyadong stacks against the skyline with Qiansimen Bridge cables framing the shot. Best at 19:30-22:30 when both light up.

Iconic 11-story stilted architecture on Jialing River cliffs, Chongqing's premier night view landmark with 2,300 years of history.
Hong Ya Dong is a cliff-side historic district in Chongqing with 11 floors of stilted architecture above the Jialing River. Founded as a Warring States military post in 316 BC, it grew through Ming and Qing dynasties. Rebuilt in 2006, became an AAAA attraction in 2007 and viral landmark in 2018. Free entry, open 09:00-23:00, metro accessible.
Worth one evening if you want the classic gold-lit riverside skyline and some street food — go after dark once the lights are actually on, shoot from the far bank, and expect crowds. I'd skip it if you hate packed spaces, get lost easily, or are hoping for much beyond the night view.
The defining feature of Hongyadong is its dramatic cliff-side stilted construction — 11 wooden floors cantilevered over the 79m cliff face, connected by outdoor escalators and narrow alleys. The structure mimics traditional Bayu stilted buildings techniques at a scale found nowhere else in China. At night each level glows independently, creating a real-life version of Bath's Roman Baths crossed with a Shinto torii gate.
Hongyadong faces the Jialing River confluence with the Yangtze (China's longest river, roughly 6300 km), and the riverside promenade directly across the water is the classic photo vantage point. The layered lights of the building stacked 11 stories high with the modern CBD skyline behind it have become the definitive image of 4D cyberpunk Chongqing.
The 4th and 5th floors are dedicated to authentic Chongqing cuisine. Try the Zhiyan River bar street for craft beer with river views, or the Hongyadong Food Street for mapo tofu, spicy noodles, and the legendary Yandiao hotpot brand that originated in this neighborhood.

Navigate to Daijiaxiang, turn right at Yuanshengshe, follow the cliff-side trail to the upper platform. Shoot downward to capture Hongyadong's tiered facade from a unique elevated angle, free of crowds.

Take Metro Line 6 to Chongqing Grand Theatre Station Exit 2, navigate to Baoding Gate. Shoot with Qiansimen Bridge as the foreground and Hongyadong's glowing stack as the backdrop.

Board a Yangtze (China's longest river, roughly 6300 km) night cruise from Chaotianmen Dock. Watch Hongyadong's layered lights reflect on the water as the city transforms into a real-life Spirited Away scene.

Most visitors climb floor by floor, but the shortcut is the outdoor elevator from Level 1 to Level 11 in 3 minutes. Saves 20 minutes of queuing on crowded evenings.
