Worth it if you're already in Guizhou and go in with a plan: lock the Water Curtain Cave reservation when you buy your ticket, arrive before the 7am opening, and give Tianxing Bridge real time — do all that and it's a solid full day. I'd tell anyone with mobility limits, very young kids, or a tight one-shot schedule to think twice; the walking, queues, and last-entry cutoffs will test you, and if you only reach the main falls you'll leave feeling it wasn't worth the ticket stack.

What's great

The Water Curtain Cave behind the main waterfall is the one part people actually rave about, but it runs on a separate timed-entry quota that fills up days ahead — book it online together with your entry ticket, because reserving it after you're inside almost never works.

Tianxing Bridge is the sleeper hit of the three zones — the cave section and the Silver-Chain waterfall drops there impressed people more than the famous main falls. If you only have energy for one detour beyond the big waterfall, make it this one.

Your ticket is valid for two entries across two days, and lots of people didn't realize it until too late — if you're staying nearby, split it into two shorter visits instead of grinding through everything in one exhausting day.

You will get soaked at the main waterfall if you get close, so it's a real relief in summer heat — bring a change of clothes rather than a poncho you'll fight with.

Worth knowing

Crowds are brutal in peak season — even people who lined up before 7am hit 30-plus-minute waits at Water Curtain Cave because entry is throttled batch by batch. If you can't get there before opening, expect a chunk of your day in queues.

It's a lot of walking across a big, spread-out park — one visitor clocked 15,000 steps at a slow pace. Bringing older parents, bad knees, or a toddler? Know it in advance; the paid one-way escalator (CNY 30) doesn't cover everything.

Closing times bite hard: the park shuts down late afternoon, sections close for maintenance without warning, and people have shown up planned to the minute to find the cave or a whole route closed that day. Check what's open before you commit.

Costs stack fast — CNY 160 entry, CNY 50 shuttle, CNY 30 escalator each way — and one person who toured all of Guizhou called this the one stop where the experience didn't match the price, especially if you only see the main falls.

Huangguoshu Main Waterfall

The crown jewel: a 67-m-tall, 101-m-wide cascade visible from the panoramic walkway. Rent a raincoat (10 yuan) to enter Water Curtain Cave and stand behind the thundering curtain of water.

Water Curtain Cave

A cave passage running behind the full width of the falls. You walk through curtains of spray while gazing at the river pouring over the cliff above. Arrive before 9 AM in peak season to beat queues.

God's Eye View Point

A 10-minute wooden plank walk from Xaxiake Pavilion gives a sweeping aerial panorama of the entire waterfall group — the most photographed angle in the park.

Tianxing Bridge Lower Route

Skip the crowded upper route and head straight to the left entrance. The 2-hour lower circuit passes steep gorges, the bridge-on-bridge formation, and ends at the delicate Silver Chain Falling Pool.

Doupo Pond Waterfall

The gentlest of the three scenic areas — a wide, 105-m-tall cascade and the filming location of the final scene in 1986's Journey to the West. Perfect 30-min warm-up walk.
